Simon Rees (Director)

  WORKSAFEPAT Ltd

We have a background in combined inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Our Company Director - Simon Rees  studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering and gained 10 yrs practical experience in production engineering and electronic servicing down to component level at SONY Manufacturing UK before setting up Worksafepat in 2003, a company with a focus on appliance safety.

In 2011 he was approached by the Essex based Association for Professional Appliance Testing (APAT) to volunteer as a committee member and became Executive Director later that year until 2014.

During that time he had the opportunity to work with the Cheif Policy Lead of the Health and Safety Executive (Dr. Julian Delic) and contributed to Health and Safety Guidance Notes HSG107 (Maintaining Portable Electrical Equipment) and the IET Code of Practice for in-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment  promoting risk based combined inspection and testing which were both being updated in response to a new Government report on over compliance.

His experience in this field as a consultant and trainer has helped towards WORKSAFEPAT Ltd achieving multiple UK Corporate Excellence Awards as UK PAT Testing Specialists of the year and an Excellence Award for PAT Training Programmes.

Most of our custom comes from recommendation, we not only provide and teach pat testing but promote formal visual inspections which account for the detection of approximately 90% of electrical dangers found in the workplace and is often skipped by other companies that only supply pat testing.

It is down to the duty holder to take all practicable steps to prevent danger arising from faulty electrical appliances in the workplace. It is therefor necessary,  for those with the responsibility of electrical appliance safety to know what is being inspected and tested and to be able to interpret test results to help to determine frequency of assessments. Unlike most other providers we provide up to two years ongoing support to businesses to help set up maintenance systems which can incorporate user checks, formal inspections and practical appliance electrical testing as suggested within Health and Safety Guidance notes and is included as part of our workplace training along with test equipment sales (if required) so that employees are able to perform in-house risk assessments safely.
